Travel guide: Costa Rica 🇨🇷
Best time to go and Good things to know
Best time to visit
- The dry season (December - April) is the peak season. There are fewer spiders and bugs (good news for those with Arachnophobia), and some forests and roads are only accessible during the dry season
- Some animals are more active during the rainy season (May - November) such as frogs, and the landscape is lush with fewer crowds
Good to know
- We recommend taking a guided National Park tour as many animals are hard to spot without knowing their habits
- A night tour will show you a different perspective of the forest, as many of its inhabitants are nocturnal. You must follow the guide's lead and be careful with snakes. Do not wander off the path at any point. This is both to protect yourself and to protect the environment. Too many people walking off the paved path can cause soil run-off and disturb wildlife.
- Costa Rica is a paradise for bird watching - one can see 60-70 species in one morning
- Marino Ballena National Park in Uvita is a no-take Marine Protected Area and a nursery site for humpback whales
- Travel to the Osa Peninsula is regulated - you must have an accommodation reservation & Corcovado National Park can only be accessed with a guide
- Sport fishing can cause lasting damage to the marine ecosystem, that is why we do not feature any such activities
