Travel guide: Croatia ππ·
Best time to go and Good things to know
Best time to visit
- Spring (April to May) and Autumn (September to October) are shoulder seasons, which offer pleasant weather with fewer crowds compared to summer. Temperatures are mild, making it a great time for exploring historic cities, national parks, and coastal towns. You can still enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and sightseeing without the peak season crowds.
- Summer (June to August) is the peak season, especially along the Adriatic coast. The weather is hot and sunny, making it perfect for beach vacations, island hopping, sailing, and outdoor activities. However, popular destinations can be crowded and prices tend to be higher during this time.
- Winter (November to March): Coastal areas in Croatia experience milder winters compared to inland regions. Winter is an excellent time to visit if you prefer fewer tourists and want to explore cultural attractions, historic sites, and local cuisine. Inland regions like Zagreb and Plitvice Lakes National Park offer opportunities for winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding.
Good to know
- Dubrovnik and Split are both filming locations for Game of Thrones; Dubrovnik was the main filming location for Kingβs Landing, and you can take a guided Game of Thrones tour
- Tipping is expected (at least 10%)
- Bring swimming shoes as the beaches are rocky; Dress respectfully in churches, and don't walk around in swimwear
- The Adriatic is home to several dolphin species, but it is too warm for the majority of whales
