Travel guide: Finland 🇫🇮
Best time to go and Good things to know
Best time to go
- Spring (March to May) is a transitional season with melting snow and longer days. It's perfect for outdoor activities like snowshoeing and birdwatching with the arrival of migratory birds
- Summer (June to August) is the most popular time to visit Finland, with long daylight hours and mild temperatures. It's perfect for outdoor activities like hiking and camping. You can also experience the midnight sun in northern Finland, where the sun doesn't set for several weeks
- Autumn (September to November) is a beautiful time to visit Finland, with autumn colours and fewer crowds. It's perfect for hiking, berry picking, and mushroom foraging in the Finnish wilderness
- Winter (December to February) is another popular time for winter sports lovers and Aurora chasers, particularly in the Lapland region
Good things to know
- Finland is known for its pristine nature and abundant wildlife. Take the time to explore national parks, forests, and lakeshores, where you can spot reindeer, moose, bears, and a variety of bird species
- The sauna is an important part of Finnish culture, and you'll find saunas in most hotels, holiday cottages, and even some public places
- Husky sledding is a popular tourist activity in Northern Finland. However, due to the rise in tourist numbers and lack of legislation regulating the practice, it is hard to robustly assess the welfare of huskies. Therefore, we do not feature any husky sledding activities at the moment or work with tour operators who run such tours
