Best time to go
- March to October is a great time to visit Ireland. It generally has a mild climate, so it never gets unbearably hot. However, the rain can be unpredictable, so dress appropriately. Expect summer crowds.
- Winter rarely snows, but expect rain.
- Christmas is big, as well as other events like Winterval.
Good things to know
- The currency of the Republic of Ireland is the Euro (€), whilst Northern Ireland uses the pound sterling (£)
- Pack rainproof and layers always help when the weather changes
- Irish and English are distinct languages (Irish is a member of the Gaelic language family). In some places, such as the Gaeltacht, the road signs can be in Irish
- Guinness is a famous drink, and it is also the sponsor of the Six Nations Rugby
