- The dry season (November/December-April) is generally blessed with sunny days and less rainfall, and is a good time to visit Mexico City and the Yucatán Peninsula
- Whale watching season is from December to March, when Humpback Whales visit the shores of Baja California. The Whale Shark season is normally between November to early April
- May to July and late November to early January is the Mobula Ray migration season. It is a magical experience seeing them leaping out of the shimmering Pacific Ocean
- 1-3rd Nov is the time for the Day of the Dead parade
- Flamingos travel between Celestún (Dec-Apr) and Rio Lagartos (Mar-Jun) each year
Good things to know
- The official currency is the Mexican Peso, but many tour operators price their activities in US Dollars
- Dress modestly when visiting religious sites and respect local norms
- Be cautious of safety and follow your guide’s advice on where to visit
- Please wear reef-safe sunscreens when visiting coastal areas. Some protected areas mandate no sunscreen, and it is advisable to bring other sun protection, such as rashguards and hats
- Ethical tour operators will have a no-touch policy for any snorkelling and diving activities unless it is a rescue situation
- The seas around Baja California are rich in marine biodiversity. Humpback Whales visit the waters from December to March. The Whale Shark season is November to April, and Mobula Rays come between May to July & November to January
- At least five Big Cat species live in the Yucatán Peninsula
- Cenotes are water-filled sinkholes and are primarily found around Yucatán - they represent life and death in the Mayan culture
- Mexico is great for bird-watching - it is home to 1,136 bird species
